FotoGrafia - Festival Internazionale di Roma. In preparazione una nuova edizione ricca di novità e cambiamenti
E' in arrivo la nona edizione del festival FotoGrafia, ricca di attese novità. La prima di queste era stata già annunciata con la pubblicazione di un bando per la selezione di tre curatori, responsabili della programmazione artistica per le prossime tre edizioni del Festival.
Il bando, chiusosi il 15 dicembre 2009, ha visto la partecipazione di 36 curatori di profilo internazionale, con proposte pervenute, oltre che dall’Italia, da Stati Uniti, Gran Bretagna, Germania, Francia, Finlandia e Lussemburgo. La commissione composta da Luca Massimo Barbero (Direttore MACRO), Marco Delogu (Direttore FotoGrafia) ed Emiliano Paoletti (Direttore Zoneattive) ha selezionato una rosa di 9 candidati sulla base della quale, a seguito di colloqui ed incontri, si è deciso di scegliere i seguenti curatori: Marc Prust (fotografia ed editoria), Valentina Tanni (fotografia e new media) e Paul Wombell (fotografia e arte contemporanea).
Marc Prust è stato Responsabile del dipartimento esposizioni del World Press Photo e Responsabile delle attività culturali internazionali dell'Agenzia VU’ di Parigi. Valentina Tanni, critica d'arte, curatrice e docente, è stata tra i fondatori di Exibart e collabora con i festival Interferenze e Peam. Paul Wombell è stato Direttore della Photographer's Gallery di Londra e del Hereford Photo Festival, dal 2007 collabora con Photoespana di Madrid.
Ulteriore novità del Festival è lo spostamento dal tradizionale periodo primaverile a quello autunnale: la prossima edizione si svolgerà dal 23 settembre al 24 ottobre 2010. Il periodo sarà confermato anche per le edizioni 2011 e 2012. In questo modo il Festival diventa il primo appuntamento della stagione internazionale degli eventi di settore, ospitando tra l'altro in anteprima assoluta la nuova produzione del Mese Europeo della Fotografia: Mutations 3.
A partire da quest'anno il Festival si arricchisce della collaborazione con il MACRO, che conferma anche in questo caso la propria vocazione ad aprirsi alla città di Roma. Proprio in questa direzione va la scelta di coinvolgere completamente i due padiglioni del MACRO Future, la sede del Museo al Testaccio votata alle grandi manifestazioni collettive. L'idea dei curatori è di realizzare una sorta di città nella città, dove per la prima volta il pubblico avrà la possibilità di vivere a pieno l'esperienza del Festival.
Alcune importanti conferme: è previsto anche quest'anno un circuito di gallerie per promuovere e valorizzare artisti ed operatori locali; ancora una volta saranno coinvolti gli Istituti e le Accademie internazionali. Viene confermato il Premio IILA FotoGrafia per la giovane fotografia sudamericana, al cui bando è ancora possibile partecipare e di cui verrà presentato il nuovo lavoro su Roma, dal titolo “L'impero del sole” del vincitore della passata edizione Giovani Verdezoto; è infine prevista l'attesa mostra di Giuliano Matteucci, vincitore del Premi Baume & Mercier. FotoGrafia- Rome’s International Festival is preparing a new edition, filled with new ideas and change
The ninth edition of the FotoGrafia Festival will open soon and is full of new ideas. The first new idea has already been announced with the competition held for the selection of three curators, responsible for the artistic planning of the Festival’s next three editions.
Thirty-six curators of international renown took part in the competition that closed on December 15th, with competitors not only from Italy, but also the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, Finland and Luxemburg. The commission, chaired by Luca Massimo Barbero (MACRO’s artistic director), Marco Delogu (Director of FotoGrafia) and Emiliano Paoletti (Director of Zoneattive), numbers were reduced to nine. On the basis of this choice, after a number of meetings, the following three curators were appointed; Marc Prust (photography and publishing), Valentina Tanni (photography and the new media) and Paul Wombell (photography and contemporary art).
Marc Prust was responsible for the exhibitions department of World Press Photo and responsible for the international cultural activities of the VU’ Agency in Paris. Valentina Tanni, art critic, curator and a professor. She was one of the founders of Exibart and works for the Interferenze and Peam Festivals. Paul Wombell has been the director of the Photographer's Gallery in London and of the Hereford Photo Festival. Since 2007 he has also worked for Photoespana in Madrid.
Another of the Festival’s innovative ideas is the timeframe, moved from the traditional spring dates to autumn. The next edition will be held from September 23rd to October 24th 2010. Dates will also be confirmed for the 2011 and 2012 editions. In this way, the Festival becomes the first appointment in the international season for events in this sector, and will also host a world preview of new production for the European Month of Photography entitled ‘Mutations 3’.
From this year the Festival will also be enriched by cooperation with MACRO, whose artistic director, Luca Massimo Barbero. It is for this very reason that a decision has been taken to use one single location at the Mattatoio di Testaccio and in particular the MACRO Future pavilions. The curators’ idea is to create a sort of city within the city, where for the very first time the public will be able to fully experience the Festival.
Many changes but also many confirmations. This year too there will be a circuit of art galleries promoting and valorising local artists and operators. Once again international institutions and academies will be involved. The IILA FotoGrafia Award for the best young South American artist will be held and the competition is still open. This award will present a new project on Rome by last year’s winner José Manuel Castrellón. There will also be the highly anticipated exhibition of work by Giuliano Matteucci, winner of the Baume & Mercier Award.
